Living spaces are important — they have a profound yet subtle effect on our emotions, offering a feeling of safety, belonging, and calm. On this blog, we often talk about how to decorate and design homes for maximum comfort and usefulness. But for many, a home isn’t synonymous with their living space. Our most recent rendering project focused not on homes, but on senior living spaces. Senior living communities and furniture companies alike are trying to find safe, affordable, and homey solutions for seniors who are no longer able to live in a home of their own. And we were thrilled when the opportunity arose to work with our client on visualizing the possibilities of beautiful senior living spaces.
Our client provided us with inspiration images and photographs of the furniture they use and sell for senior living communities and left the rest up to us. Our goal was to make sure the senior living spaces were beautiful and homey without seeming unattainable for most senior communities to adopt.
To achieve a homey and bright feeling, we opted for a mix of neutral and light colors. In most of the renderings, we chose the neutral colors for the walls and the light colors for accessories making it easy for communities to visualize their own color pallets. But we also wanted to inspire creativity, so some of our renderings include colorful walls with light accessories.
We usually incorporate as much natural light as possible in our renderings, but for this series, we used a variety of window combinations from large & plenty to small & few so that the spaces would feel relevant and attainable for most communities.
This project was exciting for us, not only because we had more hands-on involvement in the design than usual, but also because it helps inspire more welcoming and homey living spaces for seniors.
