At Pixel Perfect Studios, we work on all sorts of projects, from 3D product animations to 3D interactive tours for real estate agents, but some of our most high profile projects come from architects. Architects frequently seek us out to help them visualize their creations in breathtaking 3D computer graphics for use in presentations and marketing materials. In fact, one of our most notable projects came from an architect who worked on the renovation of a very well-known and historical building right here in Philadelphia, the city we call home. We’re talking about the Metropolitan Opera House, and we’re so proud that the illustrations and renderings we created played a big part in the renovation and promotional phases of the project, which is due to be completed this year.
The Metropolitan Opera House History
Originally built in 1908 by Oscar Hammerstein I, grandfather of Oscar Hammerstein II (who co-wrote such famous musicals as The King and I, and The Sound of Music), The Metropolitan Opera House was designed to have perfect acoustics and to this day, it’s internationally renowned for its sound quality. Over the years, the building became affectionately known as “The Met” and went through cycles of boom and bust, at various times finding new life as a concert hall, sports arena, a church, and more. Unfortunately, towards the end of the 1980s, it became increasingly clear that the nearly century-old building was showing its age and the city declared the site unstable. After a wealthy tenant spent millions stabilizing it, developers stepped in to ensure this venerated building wouldn’t get left in the past.
When developers began the planning stages of The Met’s renovation, they knew how important it was to show investors and the local community their dedication to maintaining the original feel of the building. While hand-drawn illustrations might have done the trick, The Met’s developers decided to take advantage of 21st-century technology to show off their ideas. That’s when they came to Pixel Perfect Studios and asked about our 3D computer illustrations and renderings.
