Everyone active in the architecture and design/build community understands how quickly trends change for both the interiors and exteriors of a building. The following article discusses the hottest trends for kitchen layouts in 2015 so far: http://www.westchestermagazine.com/Westchester-Magazine/Westchester-Home/Winter-2015-1/The-Hottest-New-Trends-In-Kitchen-Innovations/.
To recap the article, below are the major designs trending in the kitchen.
-
Open floor plans:
Jason Landau, an interior designer, explains that the kitchen is “the most social room of a house,” and this type of plan makes it possible to optimize interaction with others and group cooking. Transitional design comes into play for this layout, as it spaces things out while still keeping everything within one confined area.
-
Kitchens with two sinks:
Having two sinks in different areas of the kitchen can optimize clean-up time and divvy up things for hand washing and things for the dishwasher. It also compliments the open floor plan by spreading out multiple cooks in the kitchen.
-
Metal or stone counter tops:
Shiny, concrete, or stone countertops have been trending for years. The color variety is practically endless, the zinc in stones decreases bacteria, and multiple types of materials can combine into one counter or backsplash to make them pop.
-
Variety in cabinet sizes:
Customized cabinets are a hot trend in the kitchen these days. They give each customer the ability to select cabinet sizes in accordance to their specific storage needs.
-
Updated equipment and appliances:
There is a plethora of appliances available now that save both space and time in the kitchen. For example, refrigerators can be built into walls and appliances can appear smaller while offering a considerable amount of storage. Induction countertops are a hot trend because they combine the fast performance of a gas stove with the fast cooling-off and clean-up method of an electric stove.
